Robert W. Reich

Robert W. Reich, age 80, of Bristol, VA passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Cambridge House.

He was born on January 22, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Emil and Ethel Reich.

He joined the Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Le June where he excelled at baseball. After a honorable discharge, he was drafted by the New York Giants and sent to Bristol where Bobby was a pitcher for the Bristol Twins, named the Appalachian League Rookie of the Year in 1950. He coached Bristol Pony League and Colt League Baseball for several years.

He worked at Monroe Calculating, Taylor T.V. and retired from Columbus Electric.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Reich.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Frances B. Reich; a daughter, Barbara Reich and husband, Dean Vanderhoof and a son, Steve Reich.

The family would to thank the staff of Wellington Place of Colonial Heights in Kingsport, TN; Cambridge House of Bristol, TN and Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport for all their loving care during his illness.

Memorial may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 N. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37604.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Hunsucker, Bo Hunsucker, Tim Hunsucker, Rusty Baer, Greg Baer, Jerry Cross, Bobby Reich and Eddie Reich. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Baer and Tony Baer. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon – 1:00 P.M., Saturday prior to the service.
